I don't often if ever make religious posts. I am a Christian and moderately active in my church but that subject does not seem to make it here too often for a variety of reasons. None-the-less one of my preset buttons on the radio in my truck (can I call a Honda Element a truck?) is XM channel 32 The Message, that's the contemporary/pop Christian channel. Well I was listening to it on the way home from work tonight and the song Narrow Way to Heaven by Apologetix came on and... what can I say it was truly an uncomfortable listen. The instrumental part was a fine cover of Stairway to Heaven and the vocals were of passable quality, but the lyric were an extraordinarily painful experience. They actual quote scripture reference, book, chapter number and verse number in the lyrics of the song, not once but twice. Bizarre. Lots of Christian music quotes or paraphrases scripture for lyrics but to use the reference as a lyric was new to me. I am sure if you would like to torture yourself with a read of the lyrics or actually listening to it Google and YouYube will serve them up for you. I just can't bring myself to link to the lyrics or audio. I just don't understand how you could take a song with as much history and meaning as Stairway to Heaven and butcher it like that. Just don't seem quite right despite the attempted message.
